Compensation for DME
For DME products, compensation based on the amount reimbursed by Insurance or Medicare, just as physicians are reimbursed. Reimbursement rates vary by state, and we never know exactly how much will be reimbursed until the reimbursement comes in. You are paid on receivables just like Doctors, in other words, after the DME has received payment; and product does not bill until the patient has received the product after the RX has been received. To view your state rates, visit www.hmedata.com and click on “Medicare Allowables” on the top bar. Sometimes reimbursement rates come in lower than the Floor amount, especially with Private Insurance Companies, and sometimes Medicare. We do not determine the reimbursement rates!
These samples below are for illustration purposes only, and quantities vary upon the patient’s needs of course. Note that in the samples, products reflect two pieces if available, but if your patient only needs one knee for example, then ONLY write up one knee, and reduce the estimated commission in half. Everyone starts at 15%. Once you have 20 patients that have received product, then you are increased to 20%. Set your goals, always estimate worse case amounts! How many patients will you talk to each week? How many Physician offices? Stop by those offices and ask for more patients when you need too!
Set your Goals! Write them down! For Example: “I want to turn in 10 patients each week and I know Ins and the Doctors will approve 8 of those, with at least $200 in commissions. I will make at least $1600 per week, and this may be part time!” Each day write on your calendar how many patients you saw, each week total them up! You will build a pipeline, and a constant pipeline will earn you a regular Pay Check! How many patients will you see this week?
Rep Referrals: Many of you desire to build teams. For those you recruit, you receive 2% of the amount reimbursed by those you have recruited, and for those the second level down 1%. In the example below, this sample order reflects $441.87 to the producing rep, and the 1st level that recruited this rep receives $37.10 for the same order; and the next level up would receive $18.55. If you have any questions, please email your sales manager Mike Conway. If Billing Medicare, then payments are received usually within 30 days, if billing Private Insurance, it takes up to 60 days. HMO’s are especially difficult at times, however we will always make our best efforts in the best interest of your patients. PPO and PFFS are generally easy to work with. Sometimes Insurance Companies pay less than the 80%, and we do accept in most cases, though it does reduce the amount all of us receive. The Medicare/Medicaid market is awesome!
Please note we have used the avg Floor Amounts in our Estimates below, State Allowables are higher!
Below is a real commission statement from this last Friday payroll, she works DME part time, and we have removed any patient name and rep name info; however this is a real one! Do you want this also?
